The three-day annual Vasanthotsavam at the Venkateswara Temple was off to a spectacular start amidst great religious joy on Saturday. The three-day festival commenced with Lord Malayappa Swamy taken in procession along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi from the temple to the historic Vasantha Mandapam. Later, temple priests performed Snapana Tirumanajanam with chanting of vedic hymns. In the colourful ritual the deities were bathed with water, milk, curd, honey, sandalwood paste and sacred spices. According to legend, the abhishekam is performed in the summer to give Venkateswara and his consorts relief from the searing heat.
