Srikalahasti is yet another pilgrimage center near Tirupati. It is one of the most famous Shiva temples in South India. It is located on the banks of the river Swarnamukhi. It is also informally and wrongly referred to as Kalahasti. This temple of Lord Shiva is in the form of a Vayulinga. According to legend, a spider spun a web over the Linga and Kala, a snake placed a gem on the top of it and Hasti, an elephant brought water in its trunk to wash the Linga. All the three of them were ardent worshippers of Shiva. The flame in the temple flickers frequently as air is said to be constantly emanating from the Sivalinga. Srikalahasti is just 36km. from Tirupati and is well connected by rail and road with Tirupati.
Airport: The nearest Airport is Tirupati.
Rail: Srikalahasti falls on the Renigunta-Gudur railway line. Renigunta is an important junction on the Chennai-Mumbai, and Bangalore-Tirupati Railway lines. As such Srikalahasti has excellent connectivity with Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai also.
