Tarigonda Vengamamba is a symbol of women empowerment

Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba stood as a symbol of Women Empowerment almost three centuries ago with her zeal and dedication, said, Vengamamba Project Co-ordinator Dr K J Krishnamurthy.

After paying floral tributes at Vengamamba Samadhi on the occasion of 288th Birth Anniversary of the great saint poetess in Tirumala on Saturday, he said, Vengamamba penned several literary works on Tirumala Venkateswara and Tarigonda Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy.

She pioneered Annaprasadam distribution in Tirumala and fondly called by the devotees as “Matrusri”. Today the Annaprasadam charity by TTD is continued after her impeccable services”, he recalled.

The successors of Vengamamba were also present.

Describing the great works penned by Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba as masterpieces, Sri Amruthananda Swamy of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt in Bangalore said, she lived a rich spiritual life with her dedication in 18th Century.

In his religious discourse on Saturday evening in Narayanagiri Gardens on the occasion of 288th birth anniversary of the Saint Poetess, he said, Vengamamba had the unique distinction of having penned kristis on Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Sri Venkateswara Swamy and on Sri Balakrishna.

Earlier unjal seva was performed to deities in Padmavathi Parinaya Mandapam amidst the rendition of Vengamamba Sankeertans by project artistes.
