The three-day annual ‘Pavitrotsavam’ festival began today at the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara here amidst great religious fervour.

In connection with the festival, the T.T.D. management has cancelled some of the Arjitha sevas, performed during the day time till the conclusion of the festival on August 5. Special rituals like Thirumanjanam and Homam shall be performed inside the temple on all the three days, during the festival period.

According to the Agama Shastras, Pavitrotsavams are held each passing year to restore the sanctity of the temple by washing away the sins committed all year long by the visiting devotees as well as the temple staff through Aalaya Sudhi and Punyahavachanam. The festival has many different names like Dosha Nivarana, Sarvayagna Phalaprada, Sarvadoshopasamana, Sarvathustikara and Sarvakaamaprada.
