The case pertains to the coins going ‘missing’ in June 2006, from the TTD’s official treasury called ‘Bokkasam’, where Lord Venkateswara’s belongings are stored. The TTD had extended his stint, claiming that he was one of the few people who was well versed with the customs of serving the Lord, as he was on special duty (OSD).
In 2008, the TTD had suspended three senior officials and terminated the services of ‘Dollar’ Seshadri, along with the officer on special duty, after the alleged misappropriation came to light.
In October 2014, the Chittoor Fourth Additional District Magistrate court sentenced Bokkasam clerk Venkatachalapathi to three years imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
While hearing the case, the court had considered ‘Dollar’ Sheshadri a prime witness.
