SIGNIFICANCE

The Ankurarpanam Neha’s great significance in Vaikhanasa  Agama  tradition were  the sprouting of nine grains to indicate the successful conduction of the Brahmotsavam and blessings of Sri Venkateshwara. Legends say that the ritual is performed either 7,5, or 3 day of the festival.

It is an established practice to perform the Ankurarpanam after sun set as sprouting of grains is better under the moonlight.

On the day of Ankurarpanam, the seeds are dipped in water in new vessels and the entire region is decorated with cow dung.Later on all gods – Brahma, Garuda,Sesha, Vakratunda, soma, Shanta, Indra, and Jaya are invited to participate in the Brahmotsavam.

Later amidst Vedic chanting of Bhumatas water is poured on sprouts and punya havachanam is observed with the offering of new vastrams.

Thereafter Somaraja mantram, Varuna mantra and Vishnu Suktam are recited  amidst mangala vadhyam and  Veda mantras.
